About this instrument
The Arabic Oud is one of those instruments that immediately commands respect. It's rich, deep, and expressive—an ancestor to so many stringed instruments we know today. When I first began exploring it, I was captivated by how easily it could move between joy and sorrow within a single phrase. Although I was personally first introduced to the Turkish version. Its fretless neck allows for those subtle slides and emotional inflections that make Middle Eastern music so moving and somehow familiar. The versatility of this one can't be denied its place in any sort of event or ceremony.
In the first video I demonstrate a bit of its more contemplative side. In the second video, more rhythmic and majestic.
