Duduk
An ancient, hauntingly-beautiful sound..
About this instrument
This one has a voice unlike any other—warm, mournful, and deeply human. It’s often said to sound like the soul singing through wood, and I can’t think of a better description. Made from apricot wood and played with a wide double reed, its tone carries an aching beauty that can make even silence feel emotional. Every phrase seems to breathe; it’s as if the instrument itself is alive. It reaches straight to the heart and lingers there long after the final note fades. Although versatile, its emotional depth makes it profoundly suited for memorials or quiet reflection.
In the first video I demonstrate the “universal” A-440 Hz Duduk. In the second, the less common, deeper F Duduk — both handmade in Armenia by Master Galstyan.
